Aim of the project is to re-establish the active raised bog habitats and site hydrology in the areas that are influenced by drainage and to protect the raised bog habitats, plants and animals of European and Latvian importance.

Seminar about Nature Values in Mires 02/01/2011 00:00

LIFE+ Project organised a seminar "The Value of Raised Bog Conservation" in Viesīte on December 17th.

During the seminar film about raised bogs was showed. Dr.biol. Māra pakalne told about raised bog values and actions planned in the Project. Ornitologist Aivars Petriņš told about birds living in the bogs. Also a contest about raised bogs was organised.

Exhibition "Secrets of Mires" was opened. It is made by Ogre Photo Club and raised bog experts: Valda Baroniņa, Irēna Bērza, Daiga Brakmane, Dāvis Drazdovskis, Kaspars Freimanis, Vitauts Mihailovskis, Maruta Pakalne, Māra Pakalne, Aivars Petriņš, Marita Rauba, Ingūna Roze, Andreta Strade, Aivars Slišāns, Voldemārs Spuņģis, Uvis Suško and Aldis Vīte. Bird voices from bogs are recorded by Edmunds Račinskis.

Seminar was attended by more than 100 participants.
