Aim of the project is to re-establish the active raised bog habitats and site hydrology in the areas that are influenced by drainage and to protect the raised bog habitats, plants and animals of European and Latvian importance.

Photo Exhibition „Secrets of Mires” in Dundaga library 15/01/2013 16:41

The exhibition was opened by Project manager dr.biol. Māra Pakalne who gave lecture to pupils from the Dundaga Secondary School. The lecture included information about mire development and different mire types in Latvia, their distribution and negative impact of management. Pupils also learned about mire plants and animals, including rare and protected species, as well as about typical mires and habitats in Nortern Kurzeme, for example, about inter-dune-mire complex in the Slitere National Park. 

 

 

 

 

The exhibition opening was closed by Project assistant Aivars Slišāns who shared his experience about preparation of the exhibition with reporters and other visitors. 

 

 

 

 

Along with the photo exhibition one can find out about mires, their properties and about the largest bog in this area, the Bažu Bog, in spread bibliography prepared by Dundaga library. Besides, visitors can watch the movie "Exploring the Nature: Five Stories" made by ELM Media. The exhibition will be opened until Janury 31.
