Aim of the project is to re-establish the active raised bog habitats and site hydrology in the areas that are influenced by drainage and to protect the raised bog habitats, plants and animals of European and Latvian importance.

Nature Management Plans' Informative Meeting 20/05/2010 01:00

Project partner Latvian Fund for Nature is in charge of the project site nature management plans. Starting work on the plans meetings will be organized.


The meetings will take place:

  • On May 26th at 11:00 in Aizkraukle District Administration, 20 Kalna Street about Nature Reserve Aizkraukle Mire and Forests (Nature Management Plan Leader: Valda Baroniņa);
  • On June 3rd at 10:00 in Olaine Museum of Art and History, 33 Zemgale Street about Nature Reserve Melnais Lake Mire (Nature Management Plan Leader: Valda Baroniņa);
  • On 21st June at 11:00 in Sala Municipality House of Culture, 2 Skolas Street about Nature Reserve Rožu Mire (Nature Management Plan Leader: Gundega Freimane);
  • On 21st June at 15:00 in Jaunjelgava Municipality, Daudzeses County District Administration Daudzevas "Pagastmāja” about Nature Reserve Aklais Mire (Nature Management Plan Leader: Jānis Reihmanis).

In the informative meetings Nature Management Plan Leaders will present the research already carried out results and tell about planned activities. Project manager Māra Pakalne will present audience the LIFE+ Program project.
Specially protected nature area management plans are prepared to coordinate environmental protection, natural resource use, regional development, tourism and other interests so as to preserve the natural values. The plan defines the required environmental protection and economic activities permitted under zoning areas.

Scientifically based conservation planning is one of the specially protected nature areas of successful protection, maintenance and use of the most important cornerstones. For more than 15 years Latvian Fund for Nature professionals are involved in conservation planning and in preparation of management plans of protected areas.
