Aim of the project is to re-establish the active raised bog habitats and site hydrology in the areas that are influenced by drainage and to protect the raised bog habitats, plants and animals of European and Latvian importance.

Latvian Fund for Nature is preparing Nature Management Plans for four Natura 2000 sites during LIFE+ project "Restoration of Raised Bog Habitats in the Especially Protected Nature Areas of Latvia". During December Steering Group Meetings will be held.

The LIFE project team from Wales visited Latvian raised bogs /29/09/2010/

 

From October 21st to 22nd the Welsh colleagues from the EC LIFE project “Restoring Active Blanket Bog in the Berwyn Migneint and Special Areas of Conservation (SACs) in Wales“ visited the LIFE project sites in Latvia where raised bog restoration was carried out.

From September 1st to 7th, 2010 the LIFE project team “Restoration of Raised Bog Habitats in the Especially Protected Nature Areas of Latvia” were on study tour in Wales to get to know the experience of EC LIFE project “Anglesey and Lleyn Fens - Restoring Alkaline and Calcareous Fens within the Corsydd Mon a Llyn (Anglesey & lleyn Fens) Special Areas of Conservation in Wales” and “Restoring Active Blanket Bog in the Berwyn and Migneint Special Areas of Conservation in Wales”.
